Role Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented Property Management / Real Estate Accountant to take full ownership of the full-cycle accounting for an assigned portfolio of commercial and industrial properties. In this role, you will maintain accurate books, lead month-end close, and deliver clear, actionable financial reporting to ownership and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities Daily Accounting:
Process cash receipts, research non-standard payments, adjust tenant ledgers, review AP coding, and record journal entries
Month-End Close:
Manage the monthly closing cycle, including accruals, depreciation, cost allocations, and account reconciliations
Financial Reporting:
Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual balance sheets, income statements, and budget variance analyses
Cash Management:
Prepare property cash flow statements and calculate ownership distributions
Budgeting Administration:
Support ownership in preparing annual operating budgets and CAM/tax/insurance estimates for each property. Track capital expenditure projects and reconcile actuals against budget in partnership with the operations team
Lease Administration:
Maintain accurate lease abstracts and ensure billings align with lease terms, escalations, and reconciliations
Qualifications Experience:
5+ years working in the San Francisco Bay Area in property accounting or full-cycle general ledger accounting, commercial or industrial real estate preferred
Software:
Proven expertise with Excel and QuickBooks is required; AppFolio (or similar real estate ERPs like Yardi/RealPage) is strongly preferred
Skills:
Strong understanding of GAAP, bank reconciliations, accrual accounting, CAM reconciliations
Education:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
