Sr. Accountant

Description We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team on a contract basis in Encinitas, California. This role focuses on overseeing financial operations, ensuring precise reporting, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. As a key contributor, you will lead accounting procedures, manage staff, and provide critical insights to support organizational decision-making.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise the daily activities of the accounting and administration teams to ensure smooth operations.
• Manage month-end close processes, including preparing detailed monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for senior leadership.
• Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger accounts on a weekly basis to maintain accurate financial records.
• Prepare and deliver timely financial statements, departmental reports, and analyses of budget variances.
• Monitor and update cash flow reports to ensure optimal financial resource allocation.
• Generate funding reports and collaborate with grants management and fund accounting staff.
• Maintain and enforce documented accounting policies and procedures to uphold financial integrity.
• Audit financial reports, funder performance, and compliance with regulatory standards.
• Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes while ensuring team cross-training for operational efficiency.
• Lead the development of annual budgets and forecasts to guide strategic financial planning. Requirements
• Proven experience in month-end close processes and financial reporting.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting and journal entry preparation.
• Proficiency in reconciling accounts and bank statements.
• Expertise in analyzing financial data and identifying variances.
• Familiarity with government reporting requirements and compliance standards.
• Ability to manage and supervise accounting staff effectively.
• Advanced skills in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
• Solid understanding of accounting policies and internal controls.
