Job Description

We're looking for an experienced, hands-on Property Accountant / Controller to own our accounting and finance function. This is a high-impact role for someone who likes detail, clean process, and building systems that scale. You'll run day-to-day accounting across our real estate entities and also help shape the next phase: better reporting, automation, and a finance infrastructure that can grow with the portfolio. What you'll do Own full-cycle accounting for multiple real estate entities and properties: general ledger, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close Review and reconcile monthly financial packages from third-party property managers Prepare property-level and consolidated financials, monthly reporting packages, variance analyses, and supporting schedules for ownership Oversee corporate AP/AR, including vendor payments, investor distributions, intercompany activity, and capital calls Coordinate payroll processing, related journal entries, and reconciliations for internal staff Track renovation costs, construction draws, capex, loan activity, and escrow balances Maintain balance sheet items; prepaid expenses, fixed assets, depreciation, and debt schedules Support budgeting, forecasting, lender reporting, audit prep, and year-end tax work Keep us in good standing, internal controls, loan covenants, and company policy Work directly with external CPAs, lenders, counsel, and property managers Identify and implement process improvements, automation, and better tools Partner with ownership on reporting, KPIs, and a more scalable finance setup What we're looking for Required 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience Strong command of financial statements, GL accounting, reconciliations, cash management, budgeting/forecasting, and internal controls Experience managing multiple entities, properties, cost centers, or business units Ability to build and report clear KPIs Strong organization, communication, and follow-through Strongly preferred Real estate or property accounting experience AppFolio (or similar property management software) Experience implementing automation, AI tools, or better accounting workflows Dashboards, budget-to-actual reporting, financial models, and KPI systems Direct work with owners, investors, lenders, and outside tax professionals About us We are a small privately held real estate investment and property management company. We own a portfolio of residential, multifamily, and commercial assets across multiple entities and properties, and we work with third-party managers on a portion of the portfolio. This role reports closely to ownership. You'll have real responsibility and a chance to put durable systems in place—not just keep the books current. Pay:
$100,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
