Description We are looking for a Payroll Accountant to support a non-profit organization in Los Angeles, California through a Long-term Contract assignment. This position combines payroll and accounts payable responsibilities, with a primary focus on managing end-to-end payroll activities across multiple states while helping maintain accurate financial records. The ideal candidate brings strong payroll compliance knowledge, hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now, and the ability to work effectively with payroll and payment systems in a detail-driven environment.
Responsibilities:
- Process complete payroll cycles for employees across multiple states, ensuring wages, deductions, and employer obligations are calculated accurately and submitted on schedule.
- Prepare, review, and file payroll tax information in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while resolving discrepancies as they arise.
- Maintain payroll records, audit supporting data, and verify timekeeping information from systems such as Kronos or Dayforce before each payroll run.
- Support accounts payable activities by reviewing invoices, coordinating approvals, and assisting with timely payment processing through platforms such as Bill.com.
- Reconcile payroll-related accounts and investigate variances to help ensure accurate financial reporting and ledger integrity.
- Respond to payroll questions from employees and internal stakeholders, providing clear guidance on pay, deductions, taxes, and related records.
- Partner with finance and HR teams to improve payroll accuracy, strengthen documentation, and support updates to payroll-related processes and systems as needed. Requirements
- Proven experience managing full-cycle payroll in a multi-state environment.
- Hands-on proficiency with ADP Workforce Now for payroll processing and reporting.
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax reporting requirements and compliance practices.
- Background supporting payroll accounting activities, including reconciliations and record accuracy.
- Experience working with timekeeping or payroll support systems such as Kronos or Dayforce.
- Familiarity with accounts payable processes and payment platforms, including Bill.com, is preferred.
- High attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to handle sensitive payroll information confidentially.
