PROJECT ACCOUNTANT K.A.R.
Construction, Inc. is a public works contractor based in Ontario, California, specializing in government-funded infrastructure projects. We are seeking to add a full-time Project Accountant to support our project teams and ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial management of assigned projects. This position reports to the Controller and plays a critical role in managing project-level accounting functions from job setup through closeout, with a strong focus on public works labor compliance and billing accuracy. Position Summary The Project Accountant is responsible for all accounting-related activities for assigned public works projects, including project setup, billing, accounts payable and receivable, subcontractor compliance, and certified payroll reporting. The role also supports general accounting functions and works closely with Project Managers, field teams, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies. Key Responsibilities Set up and maintain projects in the accounting system from award through closeout Prepare and submit accurate and timely project billings, including required backup documentation, in coordination with Project Managers Maintain and update Schedules of Values (SOVs) for billing purposes Review and process subcontractor pay applications for accuracy and compliance Prepare, review, and submit Certified Payroll Reports to
DIR / LCP
Monitor and manage labor compliance issues, including subcontractor follow-up and resolution Maintain complete and organized project accounting files and compliance documentation Track, collect, and maintain subcontractor certificates of insurance Track, collect, and submit conditional and unconditional lien releases in accordance with payment requirements Assist with audits, job reviews, and other accounting or project-related tasks as needed Collaborate as part of a team and provide coverage for other Project Accountants when necessary Required Qualifications Minimum 3 years of Project Accounting experience on Public Works projects Strong working knowledge of AIA billing and progress billings Hands-on experience with DIR reporting and labor compliance requirements Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines Self-motivated with a strong sense of accountability and follow-through Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) Benefits Health Insurance Retirement Plan Paid Vacation K.A.R.
