An Accountant organizes and maintains financial records and prepares financial statements for companies and organizations. Works as a public accountant (prepares financial documents where public disclosure is required by law, such as business balance sheets and tax returns), management accountant (prepares financial information for internal use by a company) or government accountant (maintains records for government agencies).
The Senior Accountant plays a key role on HALL Wines' accounting team, applying professional knowledge of accounting principles and practices across the full accounting cycle. This position is responsible for general ledger integrity, account reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, and audit support, with hands-on involvement in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and fixed assets. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting skills with excellent communication, a collaborative mindset, and the curiosity to learn and adapt in a dynamic, multi-brand wine business.
Responsibilities :
Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation, ensuring accurate and timely recording of financial transactions in accordance with GAAP. Perform monthly GL account reconciliations, researching and resolving variances promptly. Prepare monthly bank reconciliations across multiple entities and accounts, investigating variances and recording adjusting entries. Reconcile the general ledger to subledgers (AP, AR, fixed assets, inventory), investigating and correcting discrepancies. Record and review expense accruals and support proper revenue recognition across wholesale and direct-to-consumer sales channels. Assist in the preparation and analysis of accurate, timely financial statements and month-end close deliverables. Maintain the fixed asset ledger, including additions, disposals, and depreciation schedules. Support inventory costing and valuation, including bulk wine, case goods, and production cost allocations, and assist with periodic physical inventory counts and reconciliations. Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including serving as cross-trained backup to AP/AR roles. Apply and uphold internal controls; recommend improvements to safeguard company assets and strengthen processes. Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors, preparing schedules and documentation for the annual audit. Support preparation of weekly and monthly reports, budget variance analyses, and ad hoc analyses to support decision-making. Assist with winery regulatory compliance and the preparation and timely filing of federal, state, and local tax returns, including TTB, ABC, and sales/use tax reporting. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. 3-5+ years of progressive accounting experience; wine or beverage industry experience strongly preferred. Excellent working knowledge of GAAP and the full accounting cycle. Solid understanding of internal controls and audit support processes. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Continia expense management strongly preferred. Advanced Excel modeling skills, including SUMIFS, XLOOKUP, and
INDEX + MATCH.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail. Excellent written and oral communication skills; able to communicate effectively across departments and at all levels of the organization. Collaborative team player who works well within a close-knit accounting team and across the company. Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, adapt to change, and take ownership of new responsibilities. Consistently meets deadlines through proactive planning and prioritization; available to work overtime as needed.
