Description We are looking for a Grant Accountant to join a mission-focused nonprofit team in San Francisco, California on a Contract basis. This role supports core accounting operations by managing transactional activity, assisting with payroll administration, maintaining accurate financial records, and contributing to timely month-end reporting. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting fundamentals, works comfortably with day-to-day financial tasks, and can step in quickly to support a fast-moving environment.

Responsibilities:

• Manage accounts payable activities, including reviewing invoices, preparing payments, and coordinating regular disbursement cycles.
• Track accounts receivable transactions, post incoming funds, and follow up on overdue balances to support healthy cash flow.
• Reconcile bank accounts and credit card statements each month, researching and resolving variances promptly.
• Support payroll administration for approximately 40 employees and address related questions from staff as needed.
• Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end close tasks to ensure complete and accurate financial reporting.
• Maintain organized and up-to-date financial data within QuickBooks Desktop and related accounting records.
• Oversee vendor file accuracy and provide support for annual 1099 reporting requirements.
• Administer Positive Pay activities and investigate payment exceptions or transaction issues when they arise.
• Contribute to forecasting support by helping refine financial models and improve reporting accuracy.

• Requirements
• Demonstrated experience using QuickBooks Desktop in a hands-on accounting capacity.
• Practical knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Familiarity with payroll processing and the ability to support employee pay-related administration.
• Solid understanding of general ledger activity, journal entries, and core full-cycle accounting practices.
• Experience working independently and contributing effectively with minimal ramp-up time.
• Exposure to Concur and payment control processes such as Positive Pay is preferred.
• Background in nonprofit accounting is a plus but not required.
• Knowledge of corporate tax, sales tax, corporate tax return support, and general ledger processes is beneficial.
