We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to help organize and lead the accounting operations within our LA Terminal. The Accountant will have deep expertise in transportation finance, strong leadership skills, and a solid understanding of revenue recognition, cost allocations, freight billing, compliance, and financial reporting within the trucking industry.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide a leadership voice for the Billings and AR collection functions within the LA office. Ensure timely cash collection and accuracy of the daily, monthly, and annual receivable cycle. Perform daily accounting functions, including GL management, AR collections, Invoicing, cost reduction analysis, AP invoice review/investigation/allocation, and other tasks as required Work with the accounting staff and leadership team in our Toronto headquarters on ad-hock projects related to accounting and administration. Prepare and distribute gross margin reports and analysis on a daily and monthly basis. This includes analyzing profit margins by lane, customer, and equipment to support strategic decision-making. Assist in the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes to ensure timely financial reporting, including revenue/costs allocations between NJ and LA office Monitor and analyze accounting data; produce financial reports, presentations and analysis as required Develop reports and financial models related to fleet operations, fuel costs, maintenance, etc. Provide administrative and compliance leadership for the team in the LA office to support future growth. Manage accounting staff and coordinate with other departments (dispatch, operations, HR). Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., DOT, IFTA, IRP, fuel tax reporting). Maintain internal controls and recommend improvements to financial procedures and systems. Work with auditors, tax professionals, and other regulatory bodies during audits and reviews. Assist with TMS (Transportation Management System) and accounting software optimization.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in the trucking or logistics industry is a must , including close work with operations or customer support teams Strong understanding of transportation-specific financial practices (e.g., load-based revenue recognition and cost allocations). Proficiency in accounting and/or transportation software (e.g. NetSuite, or industry-specific systems such as UFOs is a strong plus). Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems. Strong leadership and staff management experience. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

$60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
