Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join a team in Santa Rosa, California on a Contract basis. This role supports core accounting activities tied to capital projects, inventory-related costs, and financial reporting within a fast-paced environment.

IT IS REQUIRED TO HAVE PROFICIENCY WITH UKG AND S/4 HANA.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee project-related cost activity by reviewing and reconciling construction-in-progress balances across active capital initiatives.
• Support the transition of project spending into fixed assets by confirming timing, classification, and readiness for assets placed into service.
• Prepare and maintain accounting records for asset additions, transfers, retirements, and other capital-related transactions.
• Record and evaluate inventory and cost-related entries, helping ensure accurate recognition of materials, service expenses, and cost of goods sold.
• Create journal entries associated with depreciation, amortization, accruals, and other general ledger activity tied to the close process.
• Perform detailed balance sheet and income statement reconciliations, investigate variances, and explain meaningful account fluctuations.
• Assemble schedules and supporting documentation for internal reporting needs as well as audit and review requests.
• Partner with teams such as Engineering and Operations to clarify project status, understand cost drivers, and improve financial accuracy.
• Maintain organized records and contribute to process improvements that strengthen reporting quality, control compliance, and close efficiency. Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 1 to 4 years of accounting experience.
• Practical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and core accounting principles.
• Experience preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and working within the general ledger.
• Strong Excel capabilities with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines and perform effectively during monthly and quarterly close cycles.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Exposure to systems such as SAP S/4HANA or UKG Pro is
