Staff Accountant - Trust Accounting Specialist Summary The Staff Accountant w ill be responsible for managing the financial activities, reporting, and compliance requirements associated with trusts, estates, and fiduciary accounts. This includes accurate recordkeeping, timely reporting, and adherence to federal and state regulations governing trust entities. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting skills, exceptional attention to detail, and hands-on experience working with trust structures. Key Responsibilities Trust Accounting & Administration Maintain general ledgers for multiple trusts, estates, and fiduciary accounts. Prepare periodic trust accountings, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports. Track principal and income allocations in accordance with trust documents and applicable laws. Process distributions, contributions, and transfers while ensuring proper documentation. Financial Reporting Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for trust entities. Support preparation of fiduciary tax returns (Form 1041) and related schedules. Assist with audits, reviews, and compliance examinations as needed. Compliance & Documentation Ensure trust activities comply with governing documents, state statutes, and IRS regulations. Maintain accurate and organized trust files, including legal documents, amendments, and beneficiary records. Monitor deadlines for filings, reporting, and required notices. Investment & Asset Tracking Record investment transactions, market value adjustments, and realized/unrealized gains. Reconcile brokerage statements, bank accounts, and custodial reports. Support oversight of trust-owned real estate, business interests, and other assets. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with attorneys, financial advisors, trustees, and beneficiaries. Provide clear, professional communication regarding trust activity and reporting. Assist senior accountants and leadership with special projects and process improvements. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 2+ years of accounting experience Strong understanding of Trust accounting principles, Fiduciary tax concepts and Principal vs. income allocation rules Proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and advanced formulas Exceptional accuracy, organization, and confidentiality Ability to interpret trust documents and apply them to accounting processes Preferred Skills 1+ years in trust or fiduciary accounting preferred! Experience with Sage accounting software a plus Experience preparing or supporting Form 1041 filings Knowledge of estate administration, probate processes, or wealth management Familiarity with investment accounting and multi-entity reporting CPA or progress toward CPA is a plus
