An Accountant organizes and maintains financial records and prepares financial statements for companies and organizations. Works as a public accountant (prepares financial documents where public disclosure is required by law, such as business balance sheets and tax returns), management accountant (prepares financial information for internal use by a company) or government accountant (maintains records for government agencies).
The Opportunity St. Ann Catholic Parish is seeking a precise, dependable, and service-minded Accountant to support the financial operations of St. Ann Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Assumption Mission, and St. Ann Discovery School. This hands-on position is responsible for accurate financial records, timely reporting, strong internal controls, and confidential support of the parish's mission and ministries. Key Responsibilities Maintain general and subsidiary ledgers and ensure transactions are recorded accurately in the proper accounting period. Process accounts payable, coordinate payroll, and maintain complete vendor and payroll documentation. Prepare journal entries, account analyses, month-end and year-end closings, financial statements, and supporting schedules. Reconcile bank, investment, credit card, payroll, receivable, liability, and other balance-sheet accounts. Prepare audit schedules and required diocesan, payroll, tax, vendor, and regulatory reports. Monitor cash balances and budget-to-actual activity while supporting effective internal controls and responsible stewardship. Key Requirements Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent education and relevant accounting experience may be considered. At least three years of hands-on accounting experience, including general ledger accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial statement preparation. Advanced proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel; SAGE Intacct or comparable system experience is strongly preferred. Nonprofit, church, or school accounting experience is preferred. Exceptional attention to detail, analytical ability, organization, confidentiality, and ethical judgment. Ability to work independently, meet recurring deadlines, communicate financial information clearly, and collaborate in a mission-focused Catholic environment.
