Job Description

DARCO is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant for a hands-on, full-cycle accounting role in a lean organization. The Senior Accountant will personally manage core day-to-day accounting activities, support month-end and year-end close, maintain accurate and well-supported accounting records, analyze financial information and trends, identify issues requiring management attention, and provide clear, useful financial information to management, and work closely with the Operations Manager, President & COO, Supply Chain Manager, and outside CPA. This role is best suited for someone who enjoys being close to the numbers and taking ownership of the accounting work. The position requires sound judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to independently investigate and resolve accounting issues. The Person Who Will Succeed Here You are highly organized, exceptionally detail-oriented, analytical, and dependable. You do more than process transactions and produce reports—you understand the financial information, recognize when something does not make sense, investigate issues, identify trends, and communicate meaningful findings to management. You verify your work, maintain complete supporting documentation, communicate issues early, follow established procedures, and take responsibility for seeing tasks through to completion. You are comfortable working independently in an environment where accuracy, accountability, judgment, critical thinking, and consistent follow-through are essential.
Daily / Ongoing
Accounting Responsibilities Manage full-cycle accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, customer invoicing, cash applications, general ledger activity, and credit card expense processing. Maintain accurate customer and vendor records and verify transactions against purchase orders, sales orders, pricing, freight, taxes, payment terms, and supporting documentation before processing. Monitor accounts receivable by ageing and follow established procedures for customer collections and past-due accounts. Monitor cash activity, bank balances, and incoming and outgoing payments; identify and promptly escalate unusual or unresolved cash transactions. Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation in accordance with established procedures and internal controls. Investigate accounting discrepancies, correct errors, identify and document root causes, and follow issues through to resolution. Complete assigned accounting responsibilities accurately and on time, promptly communicate errors or unresolved issues, and take ownership of corrective action through resolution. Calculate sales commissions and maintain supporting documentation. Month-End / Periodic Accounting Responsibilities Prepare bank, credit card, investment, and monthly balance sheet reconciliations. Ensure all material balance sheet accounts are fully reconciled and supported before the monthly close is considered complete, including cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, credit cards, accrued expenses, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, sales tax payable, loans, and other applicable accounts, and provide supporting documentation to the outside CPA. Prepare and support journal entries, accruals, supporting schedules, and month-end and year-end close activities in coordination with the company's outside CPA. Maintain supporting schedules and documentation for fixed assets, prepaid expenses, accruals, and other material balance sheet accounts in coordination with the outside CPA. Prepare sales tax data, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for review and filing coordination. Prepare and maintain vendor information required for annual 1099 reporting and support timely preparation and filing of 1099 forms. Prepare requested schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for the outside CPA, year-end review, tax preparation, and other accounting inquiries. Reconcile inventory accounting with Operations and Supply Chain and investigate discrepancies. Financial Analysis / Management Support Perform financial analysis, including review of financial results, account activity, customer performance, profitability, margins, cash flow, expenses, and other relevant financial information; perform variance analysis to identify material trends, unusual activity, risks, and discrepancies. Investigate significant variances and financial issues, determine underlying causes where possible, and communicate findings and recommended next steps to management. Prepare management reports and analyses that explain the significance and business implications of the financial information, not merely report the underlying numbers. Apply independent judgment and critical thinking to accounting issues and proactively bring material concerns, inconsistencies, or improvement opportunities to management's attention. Customer Credit / Compliance / Process Improvement Review new customer credit applications for completeness, obtain and evaluate required credit information, and establish or recommend credit limits and payment terms in accordance with company-approved policies and guidelines. Escalate incomplete applications, higher-risk accounts, or requests outside established credit guidelines for management approval. Identify and implement practical process improvements that strengthen accounting accuracy, documentation, internal controls, and efficiency. Prepare and provide reports, schedules, records, and other documentation to management as requested. Maintain current accounting SOP's, checklists, and supporting documentation for recurring accounting processes and recommend updates when processes or requirements change. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on responsibility for full-cycle accounting and month-end close. QuickBooks Enterprise experience required. Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial statement preparation. Working knowledge of GAAP. Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, organization, follow-through, and documentation. Demonstrated ability to identify discrepancies, perform root-cause analysis, investigate issues, and bring matters to resolution. Strong ownership and accountability for responsibilities and deadlines. Ability to follow established SOPs, accounting controls, approval procedures, and documentation requirements consistently. Ability to manage multiple priorities and recurring deadlines independently. Demonstrated analytical and critical-thinking ability, including the ability to interpret financial information, identify material trends or inconsistencies, investigate underlying causes, and communicate meaningful conclusions to management. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills; demonstrated ability to use Excel for financial analysis, reconciliations, reporting, and data analysis, as well as proficiency in Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Experience supporting financial analysis, variance analysis, management reporting, profitability analysis, budgeting and forecasting, and cash flow forecasting preferred. Experience with inventory accounting and/or manufacturing accounting in a manufacturing, distribution, or product-based business preferred. Experience with Power BI or similar reporting and analytics tools preferred. Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English at a professional business level sufficient to independently perform the responsibilities of the position, including understanding accounting and financial instructions, preparing accurate written communications and reports, participating in accounting discussions, and communicating effectively with management, customers, vendors, and the Company's outside CPA. Ability to understand and communicate complex accounting and financial matters accurately in written and verbal English without relying on another employee to translate or interpret. Ability to independently prepare professional business correspondence and financial communications using appropriate grammar, clarity, and accuracy. This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed and is not intended to be a complete or exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or qualifications. Responsibilities may be added, modified, or reassigned from time to time based on business needs.
