Behind every successful auction is a strong financial process, and that's where you come in. We're seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Mt. Pleasant, IA team. In this role, you'll serve as a key player in the financial execution of auctions, ensuring accurate settlements, timely payments, and seamless accounting processes from start to finish. What You'll Do As a Staff Accountant, you'll help ensure the financial side of our auctions runs smoothly and accurately by: Managing auction accounting activities from start to finish, including deposits, settlements, expense allocation, reconciliations, and job-cost tracking Preparing and processing customer invoices while ensuring proper handling of tax exemptions and supporting documentation Recording and reconciling banking activity, including deposits, checks, electronic payments, and account transactions Conducting lien searches, reviewing secured interests, and communicating professionally with lienholders to obtain payoff information and support the accurate distribution of auction proceeds Performing day-to-day general ledger activities, including journal entries, adjustments, and account maintenance Ensuring financial records accurately reflect business operations and provide transparency across all transactions Supporting customers by answering questions related to auctions, payments, invoices, and settlements Organizing, maintaining, and archiving financial records in both digital and physical formats Collaborating with auction, operations, and accounting teams to support successful events and positive client outcomes Managing multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail Occasionally traveling to live auction events to provide on-site accounting support What Makes You Successful You are someone who: Thrives in a fast-moving environment and can effectively prioritize competing responsibilities Takes pride in producing accurate, detailed work Enjoys problem-solving and finding solutions independently Communicates professionally and confidently with clients, coworkers, and business partners Maintains a high level of integrity, discretion, and accountability Brings a positive, team-oriented approach while also being comfortable working independently Qualifications Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent related experience 3-5 years of accounting, bookkeeping, or finance experience preferred, but not required Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word Experience working with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar systems is a plus Strong organizational, analytical, and time-management skills Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy Ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven environment Why Steffes Group?
