Role Overview:
Brilliant Financial Staffing has been engaged in a search for a Bookkeeper/Staff Accountant to join a growing, high-end residential and multifamily real estate development firm located on Chicago's North Shore. This is an exciting opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a collaborative, hands-on environment and wants the opportunity to work closely with company leadership and experienced industry professionals.
The Bookkeeper/Staff Accountant will support accounting operations across multiple real estate development projects and entities, with responsibilities spanning accounts payable, job cost accounting, reconciliations, accounts receivable, and general accounting. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift from day to day.
Responsibilities:
Process and accurately code approximately 100 vendor invoices per week by job and cost category
Maintain subcontractor compliance documentation, including COIs, W-9s, and lien waivers
Prepare and track vendor payments and assist with construction draw backup documentation
Maintain accurate job cost records and reconcile job cost reports to the general ledger
Assist with budget tracking, variance analysis, and project financial reporting
Perform approximately 20 monthly bank and credit card reconciliations across multiple entities
Track intercompany transactions and ensure transactions are properly recorded
Process deposits and monitor accounts receivable activity
Support buyer payments, capital contributions, and HOA collections
Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end close activities
Support the Controller with lender reporting and financial package preparation
Assist with additional accounting projects and duties as needed
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including experience working with existing
VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
formulas and PivotTables
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent organizational and time-management skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Comfortable working collaboratively while also taking ownership of assigned responsibilities
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Real estate, construction, or job cost accounting experience is preferred but not required
