We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Certified Public Accountant to lead our internal accounting and financial reporting functions. Position Summary The Controller / Senior Accountant will oversee the accounting operations of the holding company and its subsidiaries. The successful candidate will be responsible for consolidated financial reporting, multi-entity accounting, budgeting, tax coordination, internal controls, and financial analysis. Key Responsibilities Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes for multiple affiliated companies. Prepare accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Manage consolidated reporting, intercompany transactions, and eliminations. Develop annual budgets, cash-flow forecasts, and financial projections. Provide ownership and management with clear financial analysis and actionable recommendations. Monitor profitability by company, customer, business line, vehicle, lane, or project. Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, reconciliations, fixed assets, and general-ledger activity. Establish and maintain effective accounting policies, internal controls, and approval procedures. Coordinate federal, state, and local tax filings with outside tax professionals. Support payroll-tax, sales-and-use-tax, property-tax, 1099, and other compliance requirements. Manage banking relationships, cash positions, debt schedules, and financial reporting to lenders. Coordinate financial audits, insurance audits, and regulatory or lender information requests. Review equipment purchases, leases, depreciation schedules, and capital expenditures. Improve accounting systems, reporting processes, and financial controls as the organization grows. Assist with acquisitions, new entities, reorganizations, and the integration of affiliated companies. Supervise and develop accounting staff and outside service providers. Work collaboratively with operations, payroll, human resources, compliance, and executive leadership. Required Qualifications Active Certified Public Accountant license. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. At least five years of progressive accounting experience. Prior accounting experience in the transportation, trucking, or logistics industry is required. Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls. Demonstrated experience with multi-entity accounting and consolidated financial statements. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting or ERP systems. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial leaders. High level of integrity, discretion, accuracy, and professional judgment. Willingness to remain hands-on while also providing strategic leadership. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or senior-level public accountant. Experience with intercompany accounting, business combinations, and complex ownership structures. Public-accounting or tax experience. Familiarity with transportation-related cost reporting, including fuel, maintenance, insurance, equipment, and driver expenses.
