Job Description

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations for a service-based organization in Oswego, Illinois. This position plays an important role in keeping financial records accurate, supporting compliance efforts, and helping the business maintain reliable reporting. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting fundamentals, sound judgment, and the ability to manage recurring deadlines with consistency.
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare, review, and maintain financial reports and supporting schedules to ensure records are complete, accurate, and aligned with applicable regulations.
  • Record daily accounting activity in the general ledger, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and updates to financial documentation.
  • Manage monthly bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies by researching transactions and coordinating with relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist with corporate and sales tax processes, including gathering information, preparing filings, and helping ensure timely submission of required returns.
  • Maintain organized accounting records and update books regularly so financial information remains accessible and audit-ready.
  • Examine account activity and reporting details to identify errors, improve accuracy, and support efficient financial operations.
  • Partner with senior accounting leadership to provide documentation and schedules needed for external audit requests.
  • Contribute ideas that support cost control, stronger financial visibility, and opportunities to improve overall reporting processes.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in a staff accountant or similar accounting role.
  • Working knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliation practices.
  • Experience supporting corporate tax return preparation and sales tax reporting.
  • Ability to prepare and review financial information with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with standard accounting systems and spreadsheet tools used for reporting and analysis.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
