Accountant/Controller Position, Kansas 4-H Foundation Manhattan, KS About the Kansas 4-H Foundation Join a team where your work directly empowers the next generation. Through philanthropy, we connect individuals, families, businesses, and organizations who share a commitment to preparing the next generation of Kansas leaders. When you join our team, you are not just managing financial records; you are providing the critical support that empowers Kansas 4-H to grow, innovate, and deliver engaging opportunities for youth across the state. The Role The Accountant/Controller plays a pivotal role in managing the 501(c)(3) organization's financial health, daily transactions, monthly reporting, annual audit, and strategy, while also providing organization-wide leadership to ensure alignment with the Foundation's goals. The Accountant /Controller reports directly to the President/CEO of the Kansas 4-H Foundation. Key Responsibilities Financial Management Oversee the organization's financial cycle, from day-to-day transactions to financial reporting Manage financial risks and liabilities Responsible for managing all external audit and reporting functions, including audited financial statements, account reconciliation worksheets, and information for annual 990 non-profit reporting. Works with external auditors to ensure correct and timely year-end closing and reporting Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and accounting standards Lead the organization's annual budget process and report to stakeholders Manage the organization's cash flow, investments, and banking relationships Management of multiple account funding streams including restricted and unrestricted funds Recommend strategic initiatives across all areas of the organization to include financial planning, risk management, and compliance; execute aligned decisions Manage the accounting software and train team members Operational Support Support human resources tasks, including coordination of payroll and benefits administration Perform additional duties as assigned
Professional Requirements Required:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or a related field Minimum 3 years of professional accounting and/or auditing experience Successful completion of a criminal background check
Preferred:
Administration of payroll and benefits Accounting experience in a non-profit or government organization, including fund accounting Qualifications & Skills Proficiency in financial reporting and analysis, including budget vs. actuals, balance sheet management, trend analysis, and financial projections Ability to manage and resolve financial difficulties Able to work in the office Monday - Friday Strong analytical and problem-solving skills High level of efficiency, accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and outside constituents Working knowledge of Google or Microsoft Office products Preferred experience with CommunitySuite and Bill.com Compensation & Benefits $60,000-$75,000, depending on experience Medical and dental insurance Paid Time Off (PTO) including parental leave 403b retirement plan with employer contribution and matching Be a part of a positive and energetic work environment As the largest youth development organization, we value continuous learning and professional development opportunities
