Job Description

Senior Staff Accountant

OVERLAND PARK, KS

Description

Midwest Family Office - a subsidiary of MTC Holding Corporation The Senior Staff Accountant manages core accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance. This role leads the month-end and year-end close, prepares financial statements, analyzes results, and strengthens accounting processes. The Senior Staff Accountant also supports leadership with actionable insights and provides guidance to junior accounting staff.

Key Responsibilities Lead monthly and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely results Maintain the general ledger and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports

Review, reconcile, and analyze complex accounts, including accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accounts receivable and payable, and intercompany transactions

Analyze revenue and expense trends, prepare variance analyses, and communicate insights to clients

Oversee invoice coding, account setup, account reconciliations, and monthly bank reconciliations; verify deposits and resolve discrepancies

Manage accounts receivable collections and oversee accounts payable, purchasing, and invoicing processes

Support external auditors and tax preparers with schedules, documentation, and year-end financial data

Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow monitoring

Partner with software vendors and internal stakeholders to maintain and improve accounting systems

GAAP and accounting best practices; identify and implement process improvements

Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff and perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.

At least four years of progressively responsible accounting experience.

Advanced knowledge of financial and cost accounting and a thorough understanding of GAAP.

Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently with a high level of accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications Experience in a senior-level or lead accounting role.

Experience in a wealth management, investment management, or trust company environment.

Work Environment and Physical Demands The essential functions of this position must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods

Regularly required to sit, stand, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers

Close vision required for computer work and document review
