Jobs › Andover, MA › Cost Accountant Charm Sciences Cost Accountant Andover, MA Apply Overview The Cost Accountant is a professional-level position that reports to the Assistant Controller and is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of inventory and cost accounting records. This role supports financial reporting, inventory valuation, standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory control activities while ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies. The Cost Accountant works closely with Materials, Production, Purchasing, and other cross-functional departments to analyze costs, investigate variances, support inventory management initiatives, and provide financial insight to support operational and business objectives. The position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting audit requirements, and driving continuous improvement in accounting and inventory processes. The salary range for this position is \$83,300.00 to \$134,900.00 per year. Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and other factors in accordance with applicable laws. Essential Functions Analyze cost accounting data and provide financial analysis related to inventory, manufacturing costs, and operational performance. Maintain and monitor standard costs, including review and analysis of cost changes and cost structures. Perform inventory accounting activities, including inventory valuation, reconciliations, and transaction review. Reconcile inventory-related general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies. Support and participate in cycle count programs, annual physical inventories, and inventory audits. Analyze inventory variances, production variances, and cost trends; identify root causes and recommend corrective actions. Research, compile, analyze, and interpret financial and operational data to support decision-making. Prepare monthly inventory, cost, and variance reports for management review. Assist with month-end and year-end close activities related to inventory and cost accounting. Collaborate with Materials, Production, Purchasing, and Quality departments to resolve inventory and costing issues. Support internal and external audit activities by preparing schedules, documentation, and analysis. Identify opportunities for process improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls. Serve as the primary backup for Accounts Payable functions as needed. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

Bachelor\'s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered. 3+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel. Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines. High level of attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.

Preferred:

Experience with ERP/MRP systems, preferably SyteLine (Infor CSI). Experience with standard costing, inventory accounting, and manufacturing cost analysis. Experience supporting internal and external audits. Knowledge of inventory control procedures, cycle counting, and physical inventory processes. Experience identifying and implementing process improvements. Physical Requirements Ability to remain stationary and work at a computer for extended periods of time. Ability to operate standard office equipment, including a computer, calculator, and telephone.
