Job Description
Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations for a non-profit organization in Boston, Massachusetts. This position will help maintain accurate financial records, prepare key tax and ledger entries, and contribute to reliable month-end and year-end reporting. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, works carefully with financial data, and can manage multiple priorities in a mission-driven environment.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and record journal entries to keep financial activity accurate, timely, and properly documented.
- Maintain the general ledger by reviewing account activity, resolving discrepancies, and supporting month-end close processes.
- Assist with corporate tax-related work, including gathering documentation and supporting return preparation activities.
- Review sales tax obligations and help ensure filings and related records are completed correctly and on schedule.
- Reconcile financial accounts and investigate variances to improve the accuracy of internal reporting.
- Support the preparation of financial statements and other accounting reports for internal stakeholders.
- Organize accounting documentation and maintain records in accordance with non-profit compliance and audit expectations. Requirements
- Detail-oriented experience in accounting, including responsibility for general ledger maintenance and journal entry preparation.
- Working knowledge of corporate tax concepts and experience assisting with corporate tax return processes.
- Familiarity with sales tax reporting requirements and related accounting treatment.
- Strong understanding of core accounting principles and financial reconciliation procedures.
- High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail when handling financial information.
- Proficiency with accounting systems and spreadsheet tools used for reporting and analysis.
