Job Summary:

The Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of engineering projects from project setup through closeout. This role partners closely with project managers, department leaders, and accounting to ensure projects are financially successful, accurately billed, and compliant with company policies and contract requirements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Set up new projects and contracts within the accounting system. Review project budgets, contract terms, and billing requirements. Monitor project costs, labor, expenses, and profitability. Lead weekly team meetings coordinating deadlines Prepare and submit client invoices in accordance with contract requirements. Track accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding invoices with project managers and clients as needed. Review and process contract modifications, change orders, and project amendments. Maintain current project list with deadline dates Reconcile project costs and investigate budget variances. Ensure compliance with company policies, client contracts, and applicable accounting standards. Assist with accounts payable and other various accounting functions Support audits by providing project documentation and financial records. Maintain accurate project files and financial documentation. Develop and improve project accounting processes and reporting tools.

Qualifications:

Associates degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. 2+ years of project accounting experience, preferably within engineering, architecture, construction, or professional services preferred. Experience with ERP or project accounting software (such as Deltek Vision, Deltek Vantagepoint, Ajera, CMiC, Sage, or Microsoft Dynamics) preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial reporting. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
