Accountant -
Head Start Job Summary:
 We are a Community Action Agency dedicated to addressing poverty and its impacts through over twenty grant-funded programs serving low-income residents in the greater Fall River and Taunton areas. We seek a skilled and ethical accountant to manage financial operations for our Head Start grant, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, compliance, and budget monitoring. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining the financial health of our programs, supporting transparency, and assisting with various accounting functions across multiple funding sources.
Responsibilities:
 Prepare and monitor budgets for the Head Start grants, including federal, state and local funding sources, ensuring compliance with funder requirements. Generate monthly program reports to track financial performance and program expenditures. Record and review monthly journal entries with a thorough understanding of double-entry accounting principles. Maintain accounts payable processes for the Head Start program that has a budget of approximately $10 million. Reconcile accounts regularly to ensure accuracy and completeness. Utilize spreadsheets, computerized accounting systems, and various reporting platforms efficiently. Provide backup support for other accounting and bookkeeping staff as needed and collaborate with the CFO on special projects. Assist in audit preparations and ensure adherence to organizational financial policies. Limited travel between two Fall River offices is required to support on-site financial activities.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field with 5 years of relevant experience in nonprofit accounting. Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and account reconciliation processes. Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Sage MIP or similar accounting software. Excellent organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Strong multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and commitment to ethical standards in financial management
