Job Description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our finance team and play a key role in analyzing costs, improving reporting accuracy, and supporting strategic business decisions. This position is ideal for a professional with strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of inventory and cost accounting principles, and the ability to partner across departments to help drive efficiency and financial performance.
Job Description:
Prepare and analyze product costing, standard costs, and manufacturing variances. Monitor raw materials, labor, and overhead costs to ensure accurate inventory valuation. Maintain and update bills of materials, routings, and cost structures in the ERP system. Perform monthly inventory reconciliations and assist with cycle counts and physical inventory. Analyze production performance, scrap, waste, and efficiency trends to identify cost-saving opportunities. Partner with operations, supply chain, and plant leadership to support budgeting and forecasting. Review and validate journal entries related to inventory, cost of goods sold, and manufacturing expenses. Support month-end and year-end close processes, including cost rollups and account reconciliations. Develop and distribute financial reports related to plant performance, margin analysis, and manufacturing KPIs. Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and GAAP related to cost accounting. Assist with annual standard cost updates and support audit requests as needed. Recommend process improvements to enhance costing accuracy and operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 3+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of standard costing, inventory accounting, and variance analysis. Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or Microsoft Dynamics. Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities. Excellent communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
