Jobs › New Bedford, MA › Sr. Cost Accountant Robert Half Sr. Cost Accountant New Bedford, MA Apply Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Cost Accountant to support financial and operational analysis for a manufacturing environment in New Bedford, Massachusetts. This is a Contract position focused on strengthening cost reporting, inventory accuracy, and margin visibility while partnering with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting knowledge, sharp analytical ability, and a hands-on approach to improving cost insight and reporting quality.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver recurring gross margin reporting on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis, highlighting trends and performance drivers.
  • Establish and maintain standard costs for products by evaluating material, labor, and overhead components.
  • Support month-end close activities by preparing journal entries, reviewing inventory balances, and assessing reserve needs for excess or obsolete stock.
  • Investigate cost variances and present clear explanations to management to support informed business decisions.
  • Produce detailed inventory and cost analyses to improve financial visibility across manufacturing operations.
  • Examine margin and inventory reports, perform profitability studies, and identify areas requiring further financial review.
  • Partner with internal teams, including IT, to address system-related issues and support enhancements affecting production, purchasing, receiving, and shipping processes.
  • Prepare accurate inventory and gross margin schedules and ensure timely submission of reporting packages to leadership.
  • Contribute to ad hoc analyses, cross-functional initiatives, and other assigned projects while following applicable safety and compliance standards. Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably within a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong background in standard costing, cost analysis, and manufacturing cost accounting.
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and cost accounting standards.
  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze large data sets and build meaningful reports.
  • Experience working with business systems that support inventory, production, and financial reporting.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
