Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Sr. Cost Accountant to support financial and operational analysis for a manufacturing environment in New Bedford, Massachusetts. This is a Contract position focused on strengthening cost reporting, inventory accuracy, and margin visibility while partnering with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting knowledge, sharp analytical ability, and a hands-on approach to improving cost insight and reporting quality.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver recurring gross margin reporting on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis, highlighting trends and performance drivers.
- Establish and maintain standard costs for products by evaluating material, labor, and overhead components.
- Support month-end close activities by preparing journal entries, reviewing inventory balances, and assessing reserve needs for excess or obsolete stock.
- Investigate cost variances and present clear explanations to management to support informed business decisions.
- Produce detailed inventory and cost analyses to improve financial visibility across manufacturing operations.
- Examine margin and inventory reports, perform profitability studies, and identify areas requiring further financial review.
- Partner with internal teams, including IT, to address system-related issues and support enhancements affecting production, purchasing, receiving, and shipping processes.
- Prepare accurate inventory and gross margin schedules and ensure timely submission of reporting packages to leadership.
- Contribute to ad hoc analyses, cross-functional initiatives, and other assigned projects while following applicable safety and compliance standards.
