Banking Opportunities Staff Accountant- Stoneham, MA Full-Time The hourly pay range for this position is $31.00 - $35.00. This range reflects the Bank's good faith estimate for this role at the time of posting. The Bank may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors, such as but not limited to, relevant education, experience, and skills. Position Summary Under the supervision of the Controller, the Staff Accountant ensures the accuracy of financial records, manages the accounts payable process, and supports the bank's financial operations. The ideal candidate should possess strong attention to detail, have experience in accounts payable and bank accounting or financial operations within a banking environment, and a demonstrated ability to meet financial deadlines accurately and efficiently. Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate strong analytical skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the capacity to adapt to changing regulatory requirements and organizational needs. Key Responsibilities Maintain the bank's general ledger, ensuring accurate financial records. Manage the complete accounts payable cycle, from invoice processing and verification to payment issuance and reconciliation, ensuring accuracy and timeliness throughout each step. Perform account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies promptly. Assist with month-end/year-end closing, assessing accruals, posting entries, performing and documenting fluctuation analysis, and preparing financial statements. Support regulatory reporting, including Call Reports and financial audits. Provide documentation for audits and implement process improvements. Oversee fixed assets and prepaids, maintaining the associated amortization schedules. Ensure compliance with internal controls, regulations, and GAAP standards. Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. Offer ad hoc financial analysis and support across departments. Cross train and assume back-up responsibilities as assigned. May participate in Board Meetings from time to time. Participate in Community Events such as volunteering for local schools, neighborhood associations, government, and/or nonprofit organizations which is part of StonehamBank's Values "SERVICE". Protect the Bank's data and systems against unauthorized access and cyber threats by operating in accordance with the Bank's Employee Acceptable Use of Technology Agreement.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience Requirements:
: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (or equivalent experience), with a minimum of 2 years of accounts payable and accounting experience, preferably in a banking or financial services environment. Job Specific Competencies Strong knowledge of accounting standards, especially GAAP - Applying accounting principles to ensure compliance. Knowledge of accounts payable related tax guidelines including sales and use tax, meals and entertainment, and 1099 reporting. Experience with the Microsoft Office suite, Oracle, avidXchange, and Prologue are preferred. Attention to detail and ability to reconcile complex accounts. Ability to work under tight deadlines, especially during month-end/year-end close. Strong analytical skills and proficiency with financial reporting tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Excellent communication skills to interact with internal stakeholders and vendors. Physical Demands and Work Environment This role is based on a general office environment and requires regular use of computers and office equipment. Ability to access all areas of the Montvale Avenue Office (main floor and second floor) and at times various branch locations. Must have the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written form with management, staff, co-workers, and vendors. Occasional travel to branch locations and external training sessions may be required. Constant use of computers requires good visual abilities.
