Job Description

The Town's Human Resources Department, is seeking a qualified applicant to fill the multi-faceted and fulfilling position of Assistant Town Accountant. This position is responsible for assisting the Town Accountant in overseeing the Town's financial records and reconciliation of accounts. A qualified applicant must thrive working in a fast pace atmosphere and be successful at multi-tasking. This is a full-time (40 hours a week) Monday - Thursday position. Salary and a very generous benefit package, including health insurance (premiums paid at 68%), dental insurance (premiums paid at 75%), paid time off and professional development opportunities including attendance at the annual MMAAA certification program for CGA Certification are in accordance with current Collective Bargaining Agreement. Education:
High School diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree in accounting or a related field. Educational requirement may be substituted with three to five years of experience in municipal finance or a related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge:
A qualified applicant must possess thorough knowledge of municipal government operation, financial protocols and applicable provisions of Massachusetts General Laws. Must be able to work independently and have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials. Must be able to effectively communicate. Must be able to organize and complete tasks with deadlines. Skilled in computer use and mathematics.
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities include but are not limited to: verifies and signs the Vendor Warrant; prepares monthly expenditure and revenue reports for Town Administrator, Sewer Commissioners and other boards and commissions; verifies all revenue before posting to the General Ledger; reconciles accounts with school and Town Departments; assists Town Accountant with monthly and year end reports; maintains Town contracts; Payroll responsibilites and similar or related work as required.
