Send job Job Details ABH is looking for an Accounting Intern to join our Frederick, MD team this fall. In this paid role, you'll gain hands-on experience working alongside our finance team by supporting day-to-day accounting operations, assisting with reporting, and applying your classroom knowledge to real organizational tasks and responsibilities.

Essential Functions:
Assist in the preparation and processing of bi-weekly payroll for employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and legal requirements. Verify and input employee time records, leave balances, and adjustments into the payroll system. Maintain and update employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, and changes to salary or deductions. Ensure all payroll data is accurate and up-to-date. Compile compensation spreadsheets for clinical staff, ensuring accuracy of data imported from EMR. Research state and federal payroll regulations, tax requirements, and wage-related inquiries as assigned to ensure that ABH practices are in compliance. Assist in the preparation of payroll tax filings and reports as needed. Generate and distribute payroll reports for internal stakeholders. Assist in reconciling payroll accounts and resolving discrepancies. Responsible for the coordination efforts between payroll, human resources, budget and other departments to ensure proper flow and maintenance of employee data (including preparation/distribution of detailed reports, e.g. overtime, leave balances, head count, and retirement contribution reports) Provides customer service to employees, management, and outside vendors/agencies. Address payroll-related inquiries from employees and escalate complex issues to the Senior Accounting Manager. Assist with general administrative tasks such as filing, scanning, and data entry. Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to ongoing projects and process initiatives. Additional duties within the accounting team as assigned.
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university working toward a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Strong desire to elevate accounting skills and gain hands-on experience in pursuit of a professional accounting career. Must have familiarity with general accounting principles (GAAP) and payroll laws and regulations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks is a plus. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of organization. Demonstrated integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial and payroll data. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment. Previous internship, coursework, or work experience in accounting or a related field is a plus but not required. Join our team and make a difference!
