Compensation:
$65,000-$85,000+ full-time equivalent, depending on experience We are a growing, established CPA firm looking for a Tax & Accounting Associate to join our team. We are open to candidates interested in either a full-time position or a part-time position of at least 50% . For the right person, there may also be an opportunity for a part-time position to grow into a full-time role over time. This position combines accounting, bookkeeping review, and tax preparation . We are looking for someone who can review bookkeeping performed by our firm, recognize when something doesn't look right, and help ensure our clients' financial records are accurate and complete. The position will also involve preparing individual tax returns and, depending on experience, business tax returns. Don't Have Business Tax Experience? That's OK. We are willing to train the right candidate in business tax preparation. If you have strong accounting knowledge and experience preparing individual tax returns but have limited or no experience preparing business returns, we would still like to hear from you. We can provide training and hands-on experience with business tax returns for the right person. What matters most to us is that you have a solid accounting foundation, pay attention to detail, are willing to learn, and can take ownership of your work. Responsibilities Review bookkeeping and financial records prepared by our firm Identify discrepancies, unusual transactions, and accounting issues Help resolve bookkeeping and accounting problems Reconcile bank, credit card, and other balance sheet accounts Review financial statements for accuracy and completeness Prepare individual income tax returns Prepare business tax returns as experience permits Learn to prepare partnership, S corporation, and other business tax returns Assist with year-end accounting and tax preparation Communicate with clients to obtain necessary accounting and tax information Assist with tax research and tax planning Maintain organized and accurate workpapers Work with the firm's CPAs on a variety of accounting and tax assignments What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who is experienced, dependable, detail-oriented, and able to think beyond simply entering numbers into accounting software. The ideal candidate understands accounting well enough to recognize when something doesn't make sense and is willing to investigate the reason rather than simply moving on. Required Qualifications Experience in accounting, public accounting, tax preparation, or a related field Experience preparing individual tax returns Good understanding of accounting principles Strong attention to detail Ability to work independently Strong organizational and communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Excel Preferred — But Not Required Experience preparing business tax returns Experience reviewing bookkeeping performed by others Experience with UltraTax CS QuickBooks experience Experience with other tax preparation software Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, MBA a plus CPA or EA designation, or interest in pursuing one Business tax experience is not required. We are willing to train the right candidate. Who Will Be Successful Here? This position would be a good fit for someone who enjoys both accounting and tax and wants variety in their work. If you enjoy looking at a client's books and asking, "Why doesn't this make sense?" before simply accepting what's there, you'll likely enjoy this position. We are a small CPA firm, so the right person will have the opportunity to work directly with experienced CPAs, interact with clients, and develop skills across multiple areas of accounting and taxation. We're also open to someone who currently wants a part-time position of 50% or more . This could be an especially good opportunity for an experienced accountant or tax professional who wants to work part-time but still wants meaningful professional work and responsibility. Schedule Full-time or part-time Part-time candidates should be available to work at least 50% of a normal full-time schedule Schedule can be discussed based on the candidate's availability and the firm's needs Compensation & Benefits Compensation will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and hours worked . For a full-time candidate, we anticipate a salary in the range of $65,000-$85,000+ , depending on experience.
