Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a well-known organization in Rockford, MI on a contract basis. This opportunity is ideal for an accounting specialist who can manage core financial activities with accuracy and consistency while supporting a fast-paced operational environment. The role will contribute to close activities, reconciliations, reporting, and ongoing accounting support to help maintain reliable financial records and informed business decisions.

Responsibilities:

Support monthly and annual close activities by preparing schedules, organizing supporting documentation, and helping ensure deadlines are met. Create and record journal entries with a high degree of accuracy while maintaining proper backup for each transaction. Reconcile general ledger accounts, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner. Generate financial reports, review results for accuracy, and highlight notable findings or irregularities for follow-up. Maintain organized accounting records and help uphold established financial controls, policies, and standard procedures. Perform balance sheet, bank, cash, and daily reconciliations to keep accounts current and aligned with source data. Assist with special accounting assignments and contribute ideas that improve efficiency, reporting, or workflow consistency. Work within ERP and spreadsheet-based tools, including SyteLine and Microsoft Excel, to complete recurring accounting tasks and analysis. Requirements Prior experience in staff accounting, general accounting, or a closely related finance position. Working knowledge of month-end close processes, general ledger activity, and account reconciliation practices. Ability to prepare journal entries and analyze account activity with strong attention to detail. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including the use of formulas for analysis, tracking, and reconciliation work. Experience performing balance sheet, bank, cash, or daily reconciliations in a business setting. Familiarity with ERP systems is highly preferred. Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to manage responsibilities independently.
