Job Description

The Claims Accountant/Analyst is responsible for all claim related accounting functions, including general ledger entries and internal and external reporting for assisting in the evaluation of loss rates and reserve adequacy, compiling information for state loss calls, the maintenance of the automated claim system, and for the performance of other financial projects as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Coordinate all daily and monthly claim-related accounting including loss provision accruals, claim payments, reconciliations, salvage, and reserve adjustments. Assist Corporate Legal and IS in maintaining the internet-based claims system including clearing edits, identifying and resolving system problems and reconciling the system to the general ledger. Complete all regular claim-related reporting including quarterly and annual Statutory filings and management and GAAP reports. Develop specialized claim reports as needed. Assist in evaluating loss reserve adequacy by Company through the preparation of loss models and analyses. Assist in analyzing loss experience and establishing loss provision rates by Company, state, county, and product line as needed. Work with IS in the development and verification of any modifications to the claims system or to system reports. Analyze claim activity to verify data, explain variances and to assist in identifying trends or areas of concern. Compile loss data for state data calls and other government requirements. Help with the annual SOX and external audit requests. Assist with the Company benefits process. Perform certain other accounting, budgeting and analysis projects as assigned by manager.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

Bachelor's degree in business/accounting/finance/actuarial science or related field or a minimum of three years' experience. Problem solving, ability to think conceptually, make sound decisions and drive results. Ability to collaborate with all levels of the organization as well as cross functionally. Requires proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office, especially Excel. Ability to work in fast paced environment while successfully performing under time constraints and meets prescribed deadlines. Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills, with ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects. Ability to act independently with sound judgment and take initiative. Written and verbal communications are clear, grammatically correct and business appropriate.

Excellent professional written, verbal, listening and communication skills. Must be a personable, positive, and professional representative of the company. Ability to foster, develop and maintain professional and collaborative working relationships. Must be able to get along with others, i.e., peers, employees, supervisors, outside customers, and vendors. Lead by positive example. Ability to collaborate and interact effectively and professionally with all levels of management, employees and customers by email, phone, video conferences and in person. Actively listens and is mindful of the role body language, gestures and other nonverbal actions can play in communication.

Physical/Mental Demands:

The ability to work with confidential information. The ability to perform under pressure and be flexible with disruptions throughout the workday. Repetitive and continual keyboard activity and interaction with display monitors is required. Local/daily travel by automobile and overnight business travel by air and/or automobile may be required. #LI-KT1 The estimated pay range stated represents the typical pay range for this position or similarly employed employees or employees performing substantially similar work. Position's Pay Range :
