Description We are looking for an experienced Accountant to support a small business in Saint Paul, Minnesota with a wide range of day-to-day financial activities. This Long-term Contract position is well suited for someone who enjoys owning core accounting processes, working independently, and delivering accurate financial information to support business decisions. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting skills, a careful approach to detail, and the ability to keep operations running smoothly across payables, receivables, payroll, and reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee routine accounting activities and keep daily financial operations organized, accurate, and current.
- Manage outgoing payments and incoming receivables, ensuring transactions are entered properly and processed on time.
- Track customer remittances and banking activity, posting cash receipts and maintaining up-to-date records of account balances.
- Administer check handling tasks, including deposit preparation, remote deposit activity, and related documentation.
- Run payroll for a small employee group through an external payroll provider while maintaining accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain the general ledger by recording transactions, preparing journal entries, and verifying the integrity of financial data.
- Complete bank and account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies to ensure clean and reliable financial records.
- Contribute to month-end and period-end close activities, including preparation of financial statements and internal reporting.
- Support invoice workflows tied to purchase orders and maintain well-organized accounting files for audit and operational needs.
- Work closely with company leadership to provide dependable reporting and financial visibility for ongoing decision-making.

- Prior experience in an accounting role such as staff accountant, full-charge bookkeeper, or small-company accountant.
- Demonstrated knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger activity, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Experience preparing journal entries, supporting close processes, and maintaining accurate accounting records.
- Proficiency with Sage 100 is strongly preferred; experience with comparable accounting software may also be considered.
- Familiarity with banking platforms, electronic payment activity, and remote deposit processes is preferred.
- Ability to manage accounting responsibilities independently with limited day-to-day supervision.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and consistent follow-through in a collaborative office setting.
