$16/hour Job Description Spectrum Accounting is seeking a part-time Accounting Intern to join our team in Springfield, Missouri. This is a developmental position designed for a student who wants to build a career in accounting and learn how a relationship-focused accounting firm serves small-business clients. The role will begin with a meaningful amount of administrative, client-support, and firm-support work. As you learn our systems, demonstrate reliability, and develop your accounting skills, you will have the opportunity to take on recurring accounting responsibilities and gain exposure to tax work. Our goal is not simply to hire short-term help. We hope to develop interns who can grow into future Accounting Specialists, Staff Accountants, and other positions within Spectrum. What You Will Do Initially, you will primarily: Support client onboarding, document collection, scanning, organization, and other administrative workflows Assist with client communications, scheduling, information requests, and follow-up Help maintain accurate client records and information within firm systems Support the Accounting team with recurring projects and seasonal workload Learn and use the technology, workflows, and security practices used throughout the firm As your skills develop, opportunities may expand to include: Processing and organizing client financial information Bank and credit card reconciliations Sales tax and payroll-related accounting support Month-end accounting and financial statement preparation Exposure to individual tax preparation and other tax projects Progression into accounting and tax work is based on demonstrated competency, reliability, interest, and the needs of the firm rather than a set amount of time in the position. Client and Team Interaction You will have opportunities to: Communicate with clients to request documents and routine information Observe and participate in client meetings as appropriate Work directly with Accounting Specialists, Staff Accountants, Seniors, Managers, and firm leadership Learn when to handle a question independently and when to ask for help Build professional communication and client-service skills from the beginning of your career What We Are Looking For Student pursuing accounting, finance, business, or a related field Interest in accounting and working with small-business owners Organized and dependable with strong attention to detail Comfortable communicating professionally with clients and teammates Willing to learn new technology and move between different software platforms Curious, willing to ask questions, and able to take increasing ownership as skills develop Prior accounting coursework or familiarity with QuickBooks or Microsoft 365 is helpful, but not required What Growth Can Look Like The Accounting Intern position is intended to be the beginning of a potential career path at
