Staff Accountant - Accounts Payable River Remedy Byram, MS Full-Time | On-Site $50,000-$70,000 per year, depending on experience
About River Remedy:
River Remedy is a licensed medical cannabis company operating in Mississippi, with multiple entities and locations across the state. We are seeking a Staff Accountant to take ownership of accounts payable from start to finish. This is not a data-entry-only position. Our accounting team is small, which means this role works across every entity and location, sees how the business fits together, and works directly with the people making operational and financial decisions. If you are detail-oriented, understand accounting fundamentals, and are comfortable speaking up when something does not look right, this role offers the opportunity to build broad, hands-on accounting experience. What You'll Own Manage the full accounts payable cycle across multiple entities and locations, including invoice intake, coding, matching, entry, approval routing, and payment runs. Maintain the AP workflow in Airtable and ensure it remains reconciled to QuickBooks Online. Verify correct entity, location, and class coding on transactions. Match third-party procurement invoices to what was actually received, not simply what was ordered. Manage vendor onboarding and vendor master maintenance, including W-9 collection, 1099 classification, and payment setup. Maintain prepaid schedules and accruals. Support month-end close, including vendor statement and credit card reconciliations. Identify and escalate issues as they arise, including duplicate invoices, pricing discrepancies, missing receiving documentation, and questionable coding. Maintain accurate documentation and follow established internal controls and approval procedures. Required Qualifications 2+ years of full-cycle accounts payable or staff accounting experience. Working knowledge of QuickBooks Online, including class and location tracking. Strong Excel skills, including the ability to build and complete reconciliations that tie. Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals and internal controls, including segregation of duties, approval authority, and documentation requirements. High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to learn new systems and processes quickly. Strong communication skills and willingness to raise concerns when something appears incorrect. Ability to obtain and maintain a Mississippi Department of Health medical cannabis work permit, including the required background check. Must meet all age and background requirements for employment at a licensed medical cannabis facility in Mississippi. Preferred Experience Airtable METRC Multi-entity or multi-location accounting Retail, manufacturing, agriculture, or cannabis industry experience Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting Why This Role Is Worth Your Time On a small accounting team, you are not just one step in a long chain. You will see a purchase from the initial vendor quote through receiving, accounts payable, the general ledger, and ultimately into the financial statements. For someone looking to strengthen their accounting skills and gain exposure to the full financial operation of a growing, multi-location business, this role offers meaningful hands-on experience.
