Camcor is seeking an experienced Senior Accounting Specialist to join our Accounting Department. This position is ideal for someone who has a strong accounting foundation and enjoys investigating issues, reconciling accounts, analyzing financial information, and taking ownership of important accounting and administrative processes. This is not an entry-level accounting clerk position, nor does it require a CPA. We are looking for someone who understands the reasoning behind accounting transactions, can identify when something does not look right, research discrepancies, and work independently to resolve problems. The Senior Accounting Specialist will work across several areas of accounting, including general ledger, banking, payroll, sales tax, employee benefits, financial reporting, and state and federal compliance. Key Responsibilities General Ledger & Financial Accounting Maintain and review general ledger accounts for accuracy. Prepare and post monthly journal entries. Review recurring and automatically generated journal entries. Research and resolve general ledger posting discrepancies. Add, modify, and maintain general ledger accounts as needed. Review financial statements and identify unusual balances, transactions, or trends requiring further investigation. Review profit center financial statements and related reports. Prepare general ledger information and supporting documentation for outside accountants. Provide reports, schedules, and financial data requested by accountants. Prepare and post accounting transactions for affiliated companies and partnerships. Assist with year-end accounting procedures and supporting schedules. Bank Reconciliation & Treasury Perform detailed bank reconciliations, including proof-of-cash reconciliations, for multiple bank accounts. Research and resolve differences between bank activity and accounting records. Upload ACH and check files through Bank of America CashPro. Review and respond to ACH and check Positive Pay exceptions. Maintain ACH Positive Pay authorizations and transaction limits. Transfer funds between company bank, credit card, wire, and disbursement accounts as required. Identify unusual banking transactions or reconciliation discrepancies and investigate the underlying cause. Payroll & Employee Accounting Process and review payroll information using ADP. Import payroll and employee benefit accrual information into ADP. Review payroll reports for accuracy before final processing. Maintain employee payroll records, changes, and adjustments. Process timeclock adjustments and review timekeeping reports. Run and distribute overtime reports to department supervisors. Review returned payroll transactions and research discrepancies. Maintain unemployment tax rates within the payroll system. Prepare and review commission reports. Export employee 401(k) deductions from payroll and upload contribution information to the retirement plan provider. Review annual W-2 information and coordinate distribution. Assist with other annual payroll reporting requirements. Sales, Income & Property Tax Compliance Review Avalara sales tax reports and research sales tax exceptions or errors. Review sales tax codes assigned to products and transactions for accuracy. Prepare and submit monthly sales tax reports by required deadlines. Research sales tax issues involving customers, products, jurisdictions, or transactions. Assist with quarterly federal estimated income tax payments. Assist with quarterly state estimated income and franchise tax payments. Prepare annual property tax listings. Review and submit required annual tax reporting documentation. Maintain awareness of filing deadlines and proactively address potential compliance issues. Multi-State Registration & Compliance Register the company with Secretary of State offices when entering new states. Register with state Departments of Revenue and unemployment agencies as required. Prepare and file state annual reports. Maintain state registration information and monitor renewal and filing requirements. Renew the company's federal SAM registration. Assist with other federal, state, and local compliance requirements as needed. Employee Benefits & Retirement Plans Reconcile monthly employee insurance invoices with payroll and enrollment records. Research discrepancies involving insurance premiums, employee deductions, and eligibility. Coordinate employee insurance applications and changes with the company's insurance broker. Maintain employee information across payroll, accounting, HR, insurance, and benefits systems. Prepare employee profit-sharing qualification worksheets. Review and transmit annual retirement plan census information. Distribute retirement plan reports and employee enrollment materials. Assist with employee benefit administration and related reporting. Employee & Administrative Support Set up new employees within applicable HR and payroll systems. Process employee address and demographic changes across company systems. Complete required employment-related documentation for customers and universities. Assist with record maintenance and database backups. Coordinate selected company administrative requirements such as required facility inspections and maintenance. Perform other accounting, payroll, compliance, and administrative responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Associate's or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered. 3-5+ years of progressively responsible accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, or financial operations experience preferred. Strong understanding of basic accounting principles, including debits and credits, journal entries, general ledger accounts, accruals, and financial statement relationships. Experience performing bank and general ledger reconciliations. Experience preparing or reviewing journal entries. Payroll experience strongly preferred. Experience with sales tax, multi-state accounting, or Avalara is a plus. Experience with ADP or similar payroll software is a plus. Strong Microsoft Excel skills. Ability to learn and work effectively with multiple accounting, banking, payroll, and benefits systems. CPA certification is not required. Position Profile This position is a good fit for an experienced accounting professional who has progressed beyond basic accounts payable, accounts receivable, or data-entry responsibilities and is ready to take greater ownership of accounting processes. The successful candidate does not need to be a CPA or have Controller-level experience. However, they should have enough accounting knowledge and professional judgment to review financial information, recognize potential problems, investigate discrepancies, and determine when an issue needs to be escalated. The position offers significant variety and exposure to many aspects of a company's accounting and financial operations, making it particularly well suited for someone who enjoys solving problems and learning how different parts of the business fit together.
