Job Description

About the Role We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Accountant to join our team. This position will be responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations while providing accurate financial information for construction projects. The ideal candidate understands the unique accounting needs of the construction industry, including job costing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, sales and use tax, and inventory management . This is a hands-on position that requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with project managers, field personnel, vendors, customers, and management. Key Responsibilities Accounts Receivable (AR) o Prepare and issue customer invoices, including progress billings and project-related invoices. o Monitor receivables and follow up on outstanding balances. o Apply customer payments and maintain accurate customer accounts. o Assist with collections and resolve billing discrepancies. o Reconcile AR balances and assist with month-end close. Accounts Payable (AP) o Process vendor invoices and subcontractor invoices accurately and timely. o Verify invoices against purchase orders, contracts, receipts, and job documentation. o Code expenses and invoices to the appropriate jobs, cost codes, and general ledger accounts. o Prepare and process vendor payments. o Maintain accurate vendor records and resolve discrepancies. Payroll o Process weekly payroll for office and field employees. o Review timecards, job codes, overtime, PTO, and other payroll information for accuracy. o Allocate labor costs to the appropriate construction jobs and cost codes. o Maintain payroll records and assist with payroll tax filings and reporting. o Coordinate with employees and managers to resolve payroll questions. Job Costing & Construction Accounting o Maintain accurate job cost records for labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment, and other project expenses. o Review job costs for accuracy and proper coding. o Assist project managers with job cost reports and project financial analysis. o Monitor committed and actual costs against budgets. o Assist with work-in-progress (WIP) reporting and percentage-of-completion accounting, as applicable. o Identify unusual variances or cost issues and communicate them to management. o Support month-end and year-end construction accounting processes. Sales & Use Tax o Prepare and file applicable sales and use tax returns. o Ensure purchases and invoices are properly taxed and coded. o Monitor tax requirements associated with construction projects and applicable jurisdictions. o Maintain supporting documentation and records for tax reporting and audits. Inventory o Maintain accurate inventory records for materials, supplies, and equipment. o Track inventory purchases, usage, transfers, and adjustments. o Reconcile physical inventory to accounting records. o Assist with periodic physical inventory counts. o Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies. Additional Responsibilities o Perform bank, credit card, and general ledger reconciliations. o Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close. o Maintain organized and accurate accounting records. o Assist with financial reporting and management reports. o Support external accountants and auditors as needed. o Maintain confidentiality of financial and employee information. o Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls. o Perform other accounting duties as assigned. Qualifications Accounting degree required o 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry . o Strong understanding of construction accounting and job costing. o Experience with AR, AP, payroll, sales/use tax, and inventory . o Proficiency with Microsoft Excel. o Experience with construction accounting or ERP software preferred. o Strong attention to detail and accuracy. o Excellent organizational and time-management skills. o Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. o Strong communication and problem-solving skills. o Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with project and management teams. Preferred Experience o Construction contractor accounting o Job cost accounting and cost codes o Subcontractor billing and compliance o Certified payroll o Sales and use tax reporting o Inventory and material tracking o Quickbooks Desktop experience
Pay:
$100,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
