Job Description

Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join a mission-driven organization in Raleigh, North Carolina. This contract opportunity with potential for a permanent role is ideal for a finance specialist who enjoys owning key accounting activities, strengthening month-end close, and supporting reliable financial reporting. The role offers the chance to contribute to budgeting and forecasting efforts while partnering with stakeholders across the organization in a dynamic social services environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Manage core general ledger activities, including preparing and recording journal entries that support timely and accurate financial close.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts such as cash, accruals, and prepaid expenses, resolving discrepancies and maintaining strong account integrity.
  • Lead bank reconciliation work and review financial data to ensure completeness, consistency, and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Analyze fluctuations in account activity, identify unusual variances, and communicate meaningful monthly trends to finance leadership.
  • Contribute to month-end close execution by organizing schedules, validating supporting documentation, and helping meet reporting deadlines.
  • Assist with the development of budgets and forecasts by compiling financial information and supporting planning discussions.
  • Partner with internal teams to explain accounting information clearly and provide guidance to colleagues with varying levels of financial knowledge. Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field, or equivalent practical experience in accounting.
  • Experience in accounting with demonstrated capability in general ledger work and month-end close activities.
  • Hands-on experience preparing journal entries and completing account and bank reconciliations.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to investigate issues, assess variances, and solve problems effectively.
  • Well-developed organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present financial information to non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency with core accounting processes, including reconciliations, accruals, prepaids, and financial reporting support.
