An Accountant organizes and maintains financial records and prepares financial statements for companies and organizations. Works as a public accountant (prepares financial documents where public disclosure is required by law, such as business balance sheets and tax returns), management accountant (prepares financial information for internal use by a company) or government accountant (maintains records for government agencies).
The Role Senior Services is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Program & Grants Accountant to join our Finance team. This position plays an important role in managing the financial activity that supports our programs, grants, and overall operations. The Program & Grants Accountant will oversee accounts receivable program billing and accounts payable processes while also managing program financials, grant budgets, forecasting, funding utilization, and the annual operating budget. This role is a great fit for an accounting professional who enjoys both the day-to-day details of accounting and the bigger-picture work of helping programs understand and effectively manage their financial resources. What You'll Do Manage the annual operating budget and oversee program financials, including billing, forecasting, funding utilization, and rate changes. Develop and monitor budgets for assigned grants and funding sources. Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable processes, including reconciliations and resolving discrepancies. Prepare and process journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, cash receipts, and other accounting activities. Partner with Accounting, Development, program teams, and outside partners on grant reporting, billing, and financial documentation. Support accounting process improvements, documentation, special projects, and financial research as needed. What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in Accounting. At least 3 years of direct accounting experience, including accounts payable experience. Strong knowledge of GAAP and FASB accounting principles. Proficiency in Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and VLOOKUP. Strong attention to detail, organization, time management, and ability to meet deadlines. Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing multiple priorities. Ability to learn and work within multiple accounting and database systems and appropriately handle confidential information.
Preferred:
Nonprofit accounting experience, two years of supervisory or management experience, and experience with Sage Abila MIP.
