Job Description
The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting the monthly close process, managing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling accounts, and assisting with inventory and agricultural cost accounting. The successful candidate will work closely with operations, purchasing, sales, farming, and management to ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and useful for decision-making. Key Responsibilities General Accounting Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and accounting records. Prepare and post journal entries. Perform monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations. Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures. Prepare financial reports and management schedules. Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies. Maintain organized supporting documentation for financial transactions. Support accurate allocation of labor, materials, overhead, and other production costs. Financial Reporting & Analysis Prepare recurring financial reports and management schedules. Assist with monthly financial statement preparation. Analyze expenses and identify unusual variances. Provide accounting information to management. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, KPI development, and cash-flow reporting. Compliance & Audit Support Assist with federal, state, and local tax-related reporting. Support annual financial statement audits and tax return preparation. Maintain documentation necessary for internal and external audits. Assist with maintaining compliance with company accounting policies and procedures. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. 2+ years of accounting experience ; agricultural, farming, food production, or distribution experience is a plus. Strong understanding of GAAP and basic accounting principles. Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, AP, and AR. Strong Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to analyze financial information and identify discrepancies. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating with operations and management. Experience with accounting software or ERP systems. Preferred Qualifications Experience in agriculture, produce, food processing, manufacturing, or distribution. Experience with inventory and cost accounting. Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
