Type:
full-time My client, a rapidly growing food manufacturing company located in Union, has an opportunity for a Senior Accountant. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing the company's Accounts Payable, purchasing transactions, inventory accounting and controls, and cost accounting functions. This is a hands-on accounting role that requires a strong understanding of how purchasing and manufacturing activity flows through the accounting system and impacts inventory, COGS, gross margin, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have extensive QuickBooks experience, strong manufacturing accounting experience, and the ability to take ownership of accounting processes from transaction entry through reconciliation and reporting. Key Responsibilities Accounts Payable & Purchasing
- Manage the full Accounts Payable process from invoice receipt through payment.
- Review and record vendor invoices and purchases accurately and timely.
- Ensure purchases are recorded in the proper accounting period and to the appropriate account.
- Match purchase orders, receiving records, and vendor invoices.
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate vendor records and AP aging.
- Properly account for inventory purchases, freight, shipping, and other costs associated with purchases.
- Work closely with Purchasing and Operations to resolve pricing, receiving, and invoice discrepancies. Inventory Accounting & Control
- Reconcile inventory records to the general ledger.
- Monitor inventory transactions from purchasing and receiving through production and shipment.
- Perform and support physical inventory counts and cycle counts.
- Investigate inventory quantity and valuation discrepancies.
- Record and analyze inventory adjustments, scrap, spoilage, shrinkage, and obsolescence.
- Partner with Operations and Warehouse personnel to improve inventory accuracy. Cost Accounting
- Maintain and analyze product and manufacturing costs.
- Develop and maintain SKU-level product costing.
- Track direct materials, direct labor, and manufacturing overhead.
- Analyze actual versus standard costs and investigate variances.
- Analyze material, labor, overhead, and production variances.
- Assist with maintaining standard costs and appropriate inventory valuation.
- Ensure manufacturing costs are properly reflected in inventory and COGS.
- Analyze product margins and identify opportunities for improved cost control. General Accounting & Reconciliations
- Perform monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare and post journal entries related to AP, inventory, purchases, accruals, and other accounting activities.
- Support the monthly close process.
- Review the general ledger for accuracy and proper classification.
- Research and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate supporting schedules and documentation. QuickBooks & Reporting
- Maintain accurate accounting records in QuickBooks.
- Utilize QuickBooks extensively for AP, purchasing, inventory-related accounting, reconciliations, and general ledger activity.
- Prepare reports and analyses for the Controller/CFO.
- Assist with improving accounting processes and internal controls within QuickBooks. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- CPA preferred but not necessary
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Extensive hands-on QuickBooks experience required.
- Strong experience with Accounts Payable, purchasing, inventory, and cost accounting.
- Manufacturing or inventory-intensive industry experience strongly preferred.
- Understanding of inventory valuation, COGS, product costing, and manufacturing overhead.
- Experience with physical inventory counts and inventory reconciliations.
- Strong Excel skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of accounting processes
