Job Description

Bookkeeper / Staff Accountant (CPA Track) Chebat Financial Group, LLC 200 John James Audubon Parkway, Amherst, New York Full-time | On-site About the Company Chebat Financial Group, LLC is a closely held family conglomerate that owns and operates multiple companies across different industries. Ownership expects clean books, timely cash visibility, and reporting that can be trusted in a meeting. We hire for character and train for scope. This role exists because we would rather invest in one capable person and grow them inside the group than cycle through contractors who never learn the companies. Position Summary You will start as the bookkeeper for the group's operating companies and, if you perform, become the person who can run the books, controls, and reporting for the conglomerate.
Day-to-day work is multi-entity:
separate ledgers, payables and receivables, bank and card reconciliations, intercompany activity, owner draws and distributions, cash position reporting, month-end support, and tax and audit binders. You will use QuickBooks and Microsoft 365 as the system of record, and you will use AI as a drafting and cleanup tool — never as an unchecked source of posted numbers. This is a first professional role for a recent bachelor's graduate in business, accounting, finance, or a related field. In return for that start, you must be willing to pursue an MBA and the CPA license with company support.
The mission is simple:
keep the companies' books clean now, and grow into the finance operator of the group. Essential Duties Books and close Maintain accurate books for multiple legal entities in QuickBooks (Online and/or Desktop), including chart-of-accounts discipline and consistent coding. Process accounts payable and accounts receivable: bills, bills payment, invoices, deposits, credits, and collections follow-up as assigned. Reconcile bank, credit card, merchant, and other clearing accounts each period; investigate and clear differences.
Support month-end close:
prepaid and accrual entries as directed, cutoff, supporting schedules, and a close checklist for each entity. Record and track intercompany charges, loans, and settlements so entity books and the group view stay reconcilable. Track owner draws, distributions, and related-party activity with a clear audit trail. Prepare or support sales tax filings, 1099 packages, and other routine compliance work. Assist with inventory, job costing, or project tracking where an operating company requires it.
Assemble tax and audit binders:
trial balances, recs, contracts, and explanations ownership or outside accountants will actually use. Cash and reporting Prepare a weekly (or other cadence set by ownership) cash position and short-term payables/receivables view across entities. Draft management reports and variance notes for ownership review; correct them after feedback until they are reliable. Support payroll processing or payroll accounting entries as assigned [assumption: payroll may be processed by a third party; this role owns the books side]. AI, systems, and process Use AI tools to draft reconciliations, clean exports, summarize vendor statements, outline process documents, and speed first drafts of reports. Prompt, review, and document AI output. Do not post, file, or send numbers that you have not tied to source documents. Build reusable checklists, naming conventions, folder structures, and Excel templates so the next close is faster than the last. Maintain files in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint/OneDrive) so another authorized person can find the work. Growth path (required, not optional) Enroll in and make documented progress toward an MBA, with a study plan agreed with ownership. Pursue CPA eligibility and licensure in New York, including exam scheduling and review-course work. Take on consolidations, internal controls, and higher reporting as competence is proven. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, or a closely related field. Recent graduates and first-job candidates are expected. Demonstrated QuickBooks skill (Online and/or Desktop): transaction entry, bank feeds, recs, basic reports. Coursework plus internship or substantial lab/project use is acceptable. Strong Microsoft 365 skill, especially Excel (lookups, pivot tables, clean, auditable workbooks), plus Word, Outlook, and Teams. Practical experience using AI tools for school or work (data cleanup, drafting, research, or process documentation), with the judgment to verify output. Written willingness to pursue an MBA and the CPA license with company support; this is a condition of the role, not a slogan. Discretion with owner, family, payroll, and vendor information. Ability to work on-site in Amherst during standard business hours, with heavier load at month-end and during tax season. Clear written and spoken English; ability to explain a reconciling item to ownership without hiding behind jargon. Preferred Qualifications Accounting concentration, internship in bookkeeping or public accounting, or a completed internship close. Coursework toward the New York 150-hour CPA education requirement, or a plan to finish it through the MBA. Experience with multiple entities, class/location tracking, or intercompany entries. Familiarity with sales tax, 1099s, or basic New York payroll accounting concepts. Soft Skills That Matter Here Family conglomerate finance is quiet, exact work. You will sometimes be the only finance person in the office. You will speak directly with owners. Loyalty, calm under deadline, and the habit of raising a problem early matter more than presentation style. If you need constant public recognition or a large team around you, this is the wrong seat. If you want to learn every entity and still be here in five to ten years, this is the right one. Schedule and Location On-site at 200 John James Audubon Parkway, Amherst, NY. Standard business hours, Monday through Friday. Month-end and tax-season peaks will require extra hours. [Hybrid is not offered unless ownership later specifies it.] Compensation and Investment in You Starting base salary: $52,000 - $60,000 , based on QuickBooks depth, Excel quality, and evidence of AI judgment. Base pay is reviewed as you take on multi-entity consolidations, become CPA-eligible, and progress in the MBA. Company-supported MBA tuition assistance, subject to an annual cap, passing grades, and continued employment [exact cap set in the offer letter]. CPA review course and exam fees for agreed exam windows, subject to a study plan and sitting for the exam as scheduled. Paid study time where operations allow, scheduled in advance around close and tax deadlines — not unlimited and not a substitute for the job. Direct mentorship from ownership on how the companies actually make and spend money.
