The Treasurer will be responsible for maintaining the District's financial records, processing and reconciling financial transactions, monitoring funds and accounts, preparing required financial and regulatory reports, and supporting the District's overall financial operations. The Treasurer reports directly to the School Business Official and works closely with the Superintendent, Board of Education, Business Office staff, outside auditors, banking institutions, and other District personnel to ensure the accurate, timely, and compliant management of District funds. The Treasurer will carry out assigned responsibilities in accordance with District policies and procedures and applicable New York State and federal laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting and organizational skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, and a commitment to financial integrity, accountability, and confidentiality. Job Responsibilities Maintain accurate and complete financial records for the District. Prepare and reconcile bank statements, financial accounts, and related records. Monitor District funds, account balances, and cash flow. Prepare treasurer's reports, reconciliations, and other documentation for the Superintendent, Board of Education, District administrators, auditors, and other authorized parties. Assist with budget preparation, monitoring, and financial reporting. Ensure financial activities comply with Board of Education policies, District procedures, and applicable New York State and federal laws and regulations. Maintain supporting documentation for audits, financial reviews, grants, and regulatory reporting. Identify and communicate financial discrepancies, concerns, or irregularities to the appropriate District administrator. Work collaboratively with District administrators, Business Office staff, auditors, banking representatives, vendors, and other stakeholders. Utilize accounting software, Microsoft Excel, and other technology to maintain financial records and prepare reports. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial, personnel, and District information. Monitor and administer school lunch funds. Oversee Debt Service. Act as the primary District contact with outside auditors. Report Preparation and Regulatory Reporting Review federal quarterly income tax reports and related documentation. Prepare financial reports as needed for budgeting, management, and operational purposes. Prepare reports and supporting documentation required for audits and financial reviews. Prepare reports and supporting documentation required for state and federal grant programs. Prepare ST-3, SA-100, and other required New York State financial reports. Prepare and submit audit reports and related documentation to applicable New York State agencies and other governmental entities, as required. Research, compile, and respond to requests for financial information from state and federal agencies. Research applicable reporting requirements and ensure all required reports are accurate, complete, and submitted in a timely manner. Required Qualifications Knowledge of accounting principles, financial recordkeeping, bank reconciliations, and internal controls. Strong attention to detail, organization, accuracy, and time-management skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel. Excellent communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and exercise sound judgment. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial, personnel, and District information with discretion. Ability to effectively collaborate with administrators, staff, auditors, vendors, banking representatives, and other stakeholders. Commitment to maintaining high standards of financial integrity, accountability, and professionalism. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Previous experience in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or school district business operations. Experience with school district accounting procedures and New York State school finance requirements. Experience with financial management or accounting software. Additional Duties Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or other appropriate District administrator.
