Job Description

Accountant Ulster County Government Position Summary Ulster County Government is seeking a qualified Accountant to perform complex accounting and financial duties within a county government office. The successful candidate will work with considerable independence, following general policies, procedures, and guidelines with minimal supervision. The position may provide supervision or direction to accounting clerical staff as needed. The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements and reports, supporting budget and appropriation activities, and ensuring accounting operations comply with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and governmental accounting practices. Key Responsibilities Perform complex accounting duties for Ulster County Government. Prepare financial statements and a variety of complex financial reports. Apply governmental accounting principles, procedures, and practices. Assist with appropriation budgeting procedures and activities. Ensure accounting activities comply with applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Review and oversee the work of account clerical staff as needed. Communicate effectively with county departments, employees, and other individuals. Perform related duties as required. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities The successful candidate should demonstrate: Thorough knowledge of modern governmental accounting procedures and practices. Good knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations affecting county government operations. Good knowledge of appropriation budgeting procedures and practices. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision. Ability to prepare financial statements and complex financial reports. Ability to communicate and work effectively with others. Strong attention to detail and thoroughness. Dependability and integrity. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. Minimum Qualifications Candidates must meet one of the following qualifications: Master's Degree in Accounting or a substantially similar field, including or supplemented by 18 semester credit hours in accounting .
Or:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a substantially similar field, including or supplemented by 18 semester credit hours in accounting , and one (1) year of full-time paid post-degree accounting experience .
Or:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field and two (2) years of full-time paid post-degree accounting experience .
Or:
Associate's Degree in Accounting or a substantially similar field, including or supplemented by 18 semester credit hours in accounting , and three (3) years of full-time paid post-degree accounting experience .
Or:
Associate's Degree in Accounting or a related field and four (4) years of full-time paid post-degree accounting experience . Application Requirements College transcripts are required when college or university education is used to meet the minimum qualifications. Transcripts should be attached to the application. Candidates who do not initially provide the required transcripts may receive conditional approval pending receipt of the transcripts .

$35.37 per hour Expected hours: 35.0 per week
