Duties Prepare, analyze, and interpret complex financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulatory standards. Conduct balance sheet reconciliations, account analyses, and general ledger accounting to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data. Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, including journal entries, bank reconciliations, and cash flow analysis. Oversee compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) requirements and other regulatory frameworks relevant to nonprofit, governmental, or corporate accounting environments. Utilize financial software such as QuickBooks, PeopleSoft, and other enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems for data entry, reporting, and analysis. Perform detailed Excel data analysis using functions like VLOOKUP, spreadsheets, and pivot tables to support financial reporting and forecasting activities. Assist in the preparation of budgets, financial forecasts, and variance analyses to support strategic planning initiatives. Mentor junior staff members in technical accounting practices including double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, and financial concepts. Ensure adherence to securities law, estate law (wills, trusts & estate law), and governmental accounting standards as applicable. Support internal audits by providing documentation for internal controls such as account reconciliation and balance sheet verification. Requirements Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required with proven experience in public accounting or corporate finance. Extensive knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting standards, and regulatory compliance accounting practices. Demonstrated expertise in SOX compliance, LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), non-profit accounting, and governmental accounting frameworks. Proficiency with financial software including QuickBooks, Quicken, PeopleSoft, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel including VLOOKUP functions), and other financial management tools. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data through Excel data analysis techniques such as spreadsheets and pivot tables. Experience with account reconciliation processes such as bank reconciliation and general ledger reconciliation. Excellent understanding of technical accounting principles including journal entries, accrual accounting, balance sheet reconciliation, and cash flow analysis. Ability to mentor team members while fostering a collaborative environment focused on continuous improvement.
