Job Description

Controller - Heavy Civil Construction Rome, NY | Onsite (hybrid option after 6+ months) | 125,000- 145,000 base salary About the Role Our client, a heavy civil construction company in Rome, NY, is looking for an experienced Controller to take ownership of the accounting function. This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll do the work directly while leading a team of four, and you'll partner closely with the company's president, who wants to stay involved in the finances but needs help carrying the load. What You'll Do Work in progress (WIP): Prepare and maintain the WIP schedule and report on job profitability.

Full-cycle accounting:

Own accounts payable, accounts receivable, account reconciliations, the general ledger, and month-end close.

Plain-language reporting:

Explain financial results to project and operations staff who don't have an accounting background.

Lead the team:

Oversee, coach, and mentor a staff of four.

Partner to the president:

Work side by side with her on financial oversight and decision-making.

Not part of this role:

payroll, three-way match in accounts payable, and collections in accounts receivable. What You Bring 10+ years of accounting experience, including prior experience as a Controller Construction accounting experience, with WIP expertise required Management and higher-level skills, with the ability to lead and develop a team A degree in accounting or finance preferred; equivalent experience considered Experience with Vista (Viewpoint) is ideal. Experience with comparable construction accounting software is fine. If you haven't used Vista, you'll need to learn the system quickly, including AP, AR, and WIP. Schedule Onsite Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM, with flexibility. A hybrid option is available after 6+ months. Compensation & Benefits Base salary of 125,000-145,000 per year 401(k) with 4% employer match 3+ weeks of vacation 5 sick days 11 paid holidays Generous benefits package
