About the Role M&E Power, LLC is seeking a Staff Accountant to own the full financial lifecycle of our construction projects - from subcontract issuance and AIA billing through job cost analysis, WIP reporting, and month end close. This role sits at the intersection of project accounting and corporate accounting, working closely with Project Managers, Purchasing, and the CFO to ensure accurate, timely financial reporting at both the job and company level. This is a learning and development role: the successful candidate will work directly under the CFO's mentorship, gaining hands on exposure with a defined path to grow into a future Corporate Controller role. Key Responsibilities Maintains fixed asset schedules and workpapers; ensures proper capitalization, depreciation, and disposal of company assets in accordance with policy. Assists the CFO with month-end close for assigned GLs, including journal entry preparation and maintenance of working papers and supporting schedules for audit. Prepares and reconciles the monthly WIP schedule, coordinating with operations and PMs to validate project data inputs; records revenue recognition journal entries and applies percentage of completion concepts per ASC 606. Reviews monthly P&L and balance sheet activity for assigned accounts, flagging unusual variances, risks, and opportunities for CFO review. Supports the CFO with ad hoc financial analysis, project reporting, and process improvement initiatives as assigned; helps ensure consistent application of accounting procedures across the team. Maintains vendor compliance tracking including certificates of insurance, W-9s, lien waivers, and prevailing wage documentation; issues 1099s at year end. Oversees AP coding and posting for all subcontractor, vendor, and overhead invoices; maintains open commitments with purchasing; brings a strong understanding of P&L impact; reconciles vendor statements to ensure all liabilities are accurately captured in AP. Prepares check runs and monitors project level cash flow, aligning AR funding with linked AP obligations to ensure timely, well sequenced payments. Processes subcontractor AIA pay applications; verifies schedule of values, stored materials, and retention against contract terms prior to approval. Drafts, issues, and maintains subcontracts, including tracking and processing approved change orders for both owner contracts and subcontracts. Prepares and submits owner AIA billing applications; reconciles approved amounts against job cost and revenue recognition schedules. Prepares monthly Project Status Reports (PSRs), processes budget modifications and job cost transfers, and analyzes over/under billing positions by job, reporting trends and variances to the CFO. Monitors job cost budgets versus actuals; identifies variances and coordinates with project managers to resolve discrepancies and reconcile costs. Maintains organized project and accounting files - including contracts, change orders, pay applications, lien waivers, correspondence, and vendor files - in accordance with document retention policy. What We're Looking For 1-3 years of accounting experience, ideally within construction or another project based industry. Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance/Business, or an Associate's degree with equivalent hands on knowledge and experience. Financial reporting and analysis experience. Review or audit experience preferred. Working knowledge of P&L and Balance Sheet activity, and how individual transactions impact the financial statements. Solid understanding of debits and credits. Working knowledge of AIA billing (G702/G703), percentage of completion revenue recognition (ASC 606), and WIP schedule preparation. Experience with job costing, subcontract administration, and change order tracking. Proficiency with construction accounting/ERP systems (e.g., Sage 100 Contractor, Sage Intacct) and strong Excel skills. Highly organized, detail oriented, and comfortable managing multiple job files and deadlines simultaneously.
