Job Description

Vaco is hiring for a Staff Accountant opportunity in Cleveland OH.
Direct Hire, Onsite Salary:
65-70,000/yr
JOB SUMMARY
The Accountant manages accounting and compliance for grants, pledges, restricted gifts, specific-purpose funds, and charitable gift annuities. Responsibilities include monitoring receivables, reviewing expenses for compliance, reconciling philanthropy activity to the general ledger, recording releases from restriction, and maintaining schedules for financial reporting and audits. The role also supports debt and interest tracking, endowment/investment administration, and serves as a Finance liaison to Development/Philanthropy. Provides backup support for AP, AR, vendor management, and tax processes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain grant records, receivables, deferred revenue, financial reports, and audit schedules. Review grant expenses for proper coding, allowability, and compliance; monitor deadlines and closeouts. Maintain pledge schedules, payments, discounts, cash flows, and monthly gift/pledge reconciliations. Classify gifts and monitor donor-restricted and specific-purpose funds. Track releases from restriction and prepare supporting documentation. Reconcile debt interest, payments, fees, swaps, and maintain amortization schedules. Process and reconcile charitable gift annuity activity and related FASB adjustments. Assist with endowment/investment activities, special projects, and Finance backup functions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance 3-4+ years of accounting experience; nonprofit/grants experience preferred. Knowledge of accounting principles and accounting software; Blackbaud/CRM experience a plus. Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills. Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and time-management skills with excellent attention to detail.
