Job Description:
At Firstar Precision, we're looking for a Senior Accountant who knows their way around a month-end close, understands job costing, and can dig into the numbers behind a manufacturing business. Firstar is an employee-owned precision manufacturing company, which means we think differently about how people contribute to the business. Our employees aren't simply working for the company-they have a stake in its success. For the right person, this role is an opportunity to build on a strong accounting background while gaining meaningful exposure to operations, sales, quoting, human resources, recruiting, and broader business decision-making. You'll still own important accounting responsibilities. But you'll also get out from behind the spreadsheet, learn how the business actually works, and have opportunities to make it work better. What You'll Do Own the Numbers You'll play a key role in the accuracy and integrity of our financial information, including: Lead month-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, variance analysis, and financial statement preparation Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts Review monthly financial results and investigate significant variances Support year-end close, audits, tax preparation, and other financial reporting requirements Review and approve payroll Review vendor payment runs Help maintain strong accounting processes and internal controls Oversight of AR/cash flow Lead annual budget and forecast exercises Understand What Happens on the Shop Floor In manufacturing, good accounting doesn't stop at the general ledger. You'll work closely with our operations team to understand how labor, materials, machines, and production decisions ultimately turn into financial results.
Responsibilities will include:
Review and maintain job costing Reconcile job operations and production quantities Analyze actual job costs versus estimates and work with operations to improve profitability Expand Beyond Traditional Accounting This is one of the things that makes this position different. We're looking for someone interested in understanding the entire business, not simply the accounting department. Depending on your interests and strengths, you'll have opportunities to become involved in areas such as: Recruiting and hiring Employee onboarding Operational improvement Sales and quoting Business analytics Process development Special projects and strategic initiatives We don't expect you to walk in as an expert in all of these areas. We do expect you to be curious enough to want to learn them. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate has: 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field Manufacturing experience strongly preferred Experience with job costing or manufacturing cost accounting Strong experience with month-end close and financial statement preparation Solid understanding of general ledger accounting and GAAP Strong Excel and analytical skills Experience working with ERP/accounting systems An ability to dig into discrepancies and figure out why something happened-not simply report that it happened The confidence to work with people across accounting, operations, sales, and management Most importantly, we're looking for someone who is curious about business and has a genuine desire to help. Why Firstar? Firstar Precision is an employee-owned precision manufacturing company serving customers who depend on us to manufacture complex, high-quality components. Employee ownership creates a different kind of environment. When the company becomes stronger, our employees participate in that success. We're building a company where talented people can take on more responsibility, learn different parts of the business, and develop careers that aren't confined by the title they were originally hired into. If this sounds exciting to you, come apply with us, we're looking forward to talking with you.
