Job Description
Position Overview The Finance Cost Accountant is a key financial partner to the Chief Executive Officer and Production team, responsible for overseeing financial reporting, cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, inventory valuation, payroll review, and internal controls. This position combines strong accounting expertise with operational insight to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information while helping leadership understand business performance, manage costs, improve profitability, and make informed strategic decisions. The ideal candidate is an analytical, detail-oriented accounting professional with manufacturing experience who can work independently, collaborate across departments, and translate financial information into meaningful business recommendations. Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Business Analysis
- Lead the preparation of accurate and timely monthly and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Provide daily and periodic financial information to executive leadership to support business decisions.
- Establish and monitor financial benchmarks, KPIs, and performance metrics.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and ensure discrepancies are identified and resolved promptly.
- Analyze financial results, trends, and variances and communicate significant findings and recommendations to management.
- Prepare ad hoc financial analyses and reports for operational and strategic initiatives.
- Perform general ledger reviews, account analysis, accruals, expense coding, and other month-end accounting activities. Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow
- Support the development and administration of the annual operating budget.
- Monitor actual performance against budget and provide meaningful variance analysis.
- Assist leadership in evaluating the financial and cash-flow impact of business decisions.
- Prepare and maintain cash flow forecasts and identify potential liquidity requirements.
- Support the execution of financial and operational plans designed to improve business performance. Month-End, Year-End & Audit
- Lead and coordinate month-end and year-end close activities.
- Ensure accounting records and financial reporting comply with GAAP and company policies.
- Prepare audit schedules, supporting documentation, and other requested financial information.
- Serve as a key contact for external auditors and coordinate responses to audit requests.
- Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the closing and reporting process. Cost Accounting & Inventory
- Partner with Production and Operations to maintain accurate product costing and inventory valuation.
- Analyze manufacturing costs and evaluate standard costs compared with actual results.
- Investigate material, labor, overhead, and production variances and recommend corrective actions.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve margins, and increase operational efficiency.
- Maintain the integrity of item numbers, Bills of Materials (BOMs), labor routings, and related manufacturing data.
- Collaborate with Production to ensure financial and operational systems accurately reflect manufacturing activities. Systems, Controls & Process Improvement
- Maintain and enhance accounting and financial reporting systems, including account structures and reporting hierarchies.
- Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls and financial procedures.
- Identify opportunities to automate, streamline, and improve accounting and reporting processes.
- Recommend and implement accounting practices that improve accuracy, consistency, and efficiency.
- Assist the CEO with developing and maintaining departmental policies and procedures. Payroll Oversight
- Participate in the payroll process and review payroll-related financial information prior to release.
- Verify payroll accounting is accurate and properly recorded in the general ledger.
- Assist in identifying and resolving payroll-related accounting discrepancies. Strategic & Special Projects
- Lead or support financial, operational, and strategic projects as assigned by the CEO.
- Provide financial analysis and business insight for new initiatives, investments, process improvements, and other organizational decisions.
- Serve as a financial resource to Production, Operations, Human Resources, and other departments. Qualifications Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- CPA, CMA, or other relevant professional certification preferred. Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience.
- Manufacturing and cost accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, inventory accounting, and financial statement preparation.
- Experience working with ERP and accounting systems. Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting practices.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing cost accounting and inventory principles.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting systems.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management.
- Ability to analyze complex financial information and clearly communicate conclusions and recommendations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- High level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively across departments.
