Wooster Company hiring a Senior Accountant The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys both detailed accounting work and operational analysis. They are comfortable working with financial statements, inventory data, margin analysis, and business operations while providing management with timely, accurate, and actionable financial information. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Financial Reporting & General Accounting Prepare and review monthly journal entries and account reconciliations. Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes. Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports. Analyze financial results and explain variances to budget and prior year. Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies. Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies. Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules. Operational Accounting Analyze margin analysis performance, inventory activity, and operational results. Support accounting with additional product lines. Review inventory reconciliations and monitor inventory valuation. Monitor transportation and freight-related cost allocations. Review accounts receivable aging reports and assist with collection strategies. Analyze customer credit exposure and bad debt reserves. Support periodic credit and collection reviews with management. Support account activities, including invoice review, coding, approval routing, and payment preparation. Assist with vendor account reconciliations and resolution of billing discrepancies. Collaborate with operations and management to ensure accurate expense classification and timely processing of payables. Budgeting & Analysis Assist in annual budgeting and forecasting processes. Develop financial models and reporting tools. Track key performance indicators and operational metrics. Identify opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency. Audit, Compliance & Internal Controls Assist with external financial statement audits and tax-related requests. Prepare supporting schedules and audit workpapers. Ensure adherence to internal control procedures. Support process improvement initiatives and accounting automation projects. Systems & Process Improvement Maintain financial reporting and ERP system integrity. Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes. Participate in system implementations and process enhancement projects. Assist with development of dashboards and management reporting tools. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field required. 3+ years of progressive accounting experience. Public accounting experience strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of GAAP. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, Power Query, and financial modeling. Experience with ERP/accounting systems. Experience with financial reporting and business analytics tools preferred. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills. High degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments. Preferred Qualifications Experience with inventory accounting and cost accounting. Experience with fuel, propane, lubricants, transportation, or distribution operations. Experience preparing monthly management reporting packages.
